prepared showing the actual financial position of the Colony at the commencement of the present year. From
this it will be seen that
after allowing for all outstanding liabilities there was on the 1st of January last a net balance of upwards of £43,000 available for the services of A.D. 1859.
3. A similar approximate return made up to the 1st instant shows that this balance may now be estimated at upwards of £44,000; and as far as I can judge I think it will be found on the 1st January next to exceed £45,000.
4. The ordinary revenue of the Colony - exclusive of the sale of Crown Lands - may be estimated at about £65,000. The ordinary expenditure - exclusive of public works - at about £45,000: leaving about £20,000 available each year for extraordinary expenditure.
